Aang realizes Bumi is right and lets him go back into captivity. The team manages to return Tom-Tom to his parents safely, proving they aren't the kidnappers the Fire Nation claimed. As they fly away on Appa, Aang is saddened to leave his old friend behind but is motivated by a new goal: finding the teacher Bumi described.
A massive fight breaks out. Aang chases after Bumi's coffin while being pursued by Azula. This marks their first real confrontation, where Aang realizes how dangerous and precise her blue flames are. The trio sneaks into the city using a "purple pentapus" trick—letting the tiny creatures bite them to create fake red marks that look like "pentapox," a highly contagious (and made-up) disease.
