Russian Circles’ 2022 release, Gnosis , is a singular achievement in their discography, marking a shift away from the sprawling, cinematic terrain of their previous work toward a more concentrated and tumultuous sound. Developed through a fragmented writing process necessitated by the pandemic, the album captures a raw, focused energy that prioritizes physical catharsis over atmosphere. A New Collaborative Blueprint

The album’s structure emphasizes a "two halves" narrative, moving from unrelenting heaviness to more nuanced, Dream-like passages.

: The title track serves as the album's centerpiece and produced the band’s first-ever official music video. It follows a slow-build "krautrock" methodology—utilizing drones and hypnotic drum patterns—before exploding into a wall of sound.

: These opening tracks set a high-intensity tone, featuring blast-beats and a "colossal" guitar sound that moves the band closer to post-metal and blackgaze.

Working again with producer , Russian Circles lean into their heaviest inclinations, described by critics as "jacked" and "harrowing".

: This remote process allowed each member's initial creative spark to remain intact throughout the arrangement phase.

    • This could have to do with the pathing policy as well. The default SATP rule is likely going to be using MRU (most recently used) pathing policy for new devices, which only uses one of the available paths. Ideally they would be using Round Robin, which has an IOPs limit setting. That setting is 1000 by default I believe (would need to double check that), meaning that it sends 1000 IOPs down path 1, then 1000 IOPs down path 2, etc. That’s why the pathing policy could be at play.

To your question, having one path down is causing this logging to occur. Yes, it’s total possible if that path that went down is using MRU or RR with an IOPs limit of 1000, that when it goes down you’ll hit that 16 second HB timeout before nmp switches over to the next path.
