The town of Paradise was, as usual, smelling faintly of gunpowder and Argos’s questionable hygiene. But at the station, Chief Randall Crawford was vibrating with a different kind of energy.

Bullet the dog trotted in, wearing a headset and looking uncharacteristically focused. "Chief, the file’s been indexed. We’re officially part of the digital ether. But there’s a glitch—Kevin’s character model is rendering at 480p."

Kevin looked down at his hands, which were indeed slightly pixelated. "Am I... am I a thumbnail?"

"Exactly," Randall snapped. "And Hopson, for the love of God, put on some high-definition pants. The 'Castellano' dubbing crew is already in the booth, and they’re struggling to find a Spanish word for whatever it is you do with those pigeons."

How should the crew handle their first high-definition encounter with the Castellano voice actors?

"Listen up, you degenerates!" Randall barked, slamming a file onto the desk. "We’ve got a situation. Episode 408 is live, and the internet says we’re in 'HDTV' quality. I don’t know what that means, but I want everyone looking crisp. No blurred edges, no low-bitrate nonsense!"

Dusty, currently attempting to see if he could fit an entire rotisserie chicken in his mouth, muffled a response. "Does that mean my sweat stains will be in 1080p, Chief? Because that’s a lot of detail for the fans."

As the "Recap" music began to swell, Gina punched a hole through the breakroom wall just for the aesthetic, and the crew of the PD prepared for another day of absolute, crystal-clear chaos.
